Government of India Administrative Setup

There are various categories of jobs under Government of India. 

All the jobs are divided into 3 Groups namely A , B and C. (Group A being the highest and C being lowest )

All jobs carry Grade Pays and are placed in 4 Pay Bands . ( Pay 4 being highest and 1 being lowest )
Different Pay Bands are as follows :
Pay Band 4 - 37400 - 61000
Pay Band 3 - 15600 - 39100
Pay Band 2 -   9300 - 34800
Pay Band 1 -   5200 - 20200


Group A jobs are higher in rank and pay more , followed by Group B and at last by Group C jobs which are the least paying ones. But their is no hard and fast rule about relation between Group and Pay Scales. For example : Income Tax Inspector and Inspector ( Examiner) with 4600 Grade Pay are classified as Group C where as there are some posts such as Sub Inspector CBI and Inspector of Posts with Grade Pay 4200 are classified as Group B. ( weird but that is how things are in our government !!!)
